Responsibilities and Duties
The individuals we serve have specific needs which may include:
- Physical Needs: Appropriately assist individuals served with tasks determined by their physical abilities.
- Personal hygiene: Brushing/combing hair, brushing teeth, filing of nails, including other basic personal hygiene, and grooming needs.
- Dressing: Buttoning, zippering, dressing, and undressing, selecting appropriate clothing
- Bathing: Washing body or hair
- Toileting: Diapering, wiping, and lifting individuals served on and off the toilet
- Ambulation: Moving around and standby assistance
- Transferring: Using assisted devices for transfer with getting in/out of bed, in/out of bathtub/shower, and providing standby assistance.
- Feeding: Cutting food, spreading food, lifting fork/spoon to mouth
- Medication: Providing medication reminders, handing the medication container to the individual served, and opening the medication container. Medication must be administered by the individual served or the designated/assigned person assigned to their care.
- Household assistance (Cannot exceed 20% of caregiving time spent with the individual served): Tasks essential to the health and comfort of the individual served. These tasks are limited to such things as cleaning up after meals and snacks, changing bed linens, laundering bed linens and clothing used by the individual served, and tidying areas of the home occupied by the individual served.
- Nutritional needs (Cannot exceed 20% of caregiving time spent with the individual served): Meal/snack planning (including special diets), and preparation of healthy and appropriate foods.
- Transportation Assisting with transportation to and from medical appointments, recreational activities, and special events.
Characteristics, Qualifications, and Skills
- Empathetic, supportive, kind, patient, respectful, motivating, creative, and an understanding disposition are required
- Keen observation and communication skills, time management, organized, responsive, flexible, and dependability are required qualifications.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds, remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, and bend, or stand as necessary are required skills.
